Procrastination is very much a vice
Baby steps of trying to get back into writing. Very, tiny baby steps...
Title: Seven Virtues
Fandom: Young Justice
Summary: Seven drabbles spanning the Young Justice series based on the four classic virtues and the three faith virtues. Mix of characters and pairings.
Word Count: 700, er, 707 if you count titles.
PRUDENCE
Timothy Drake thought his best friends were crazy.
Sure, he was "dressed up in red and green tights to fight the criminal element as Robin" crazy, but relatively sane in comparison. Normal age, no evil clones, no superpowers. At least normal enough to know how far from it they were. And if they kept up they'd drive him crazier.
First fight with Bedlam Tim decided Bart would probably get them all killed.
First brush with the media Tim decided Kon would eventually need to be killed.
First time making sense of their madness Tim decided he felt like he belonged.
JUSTICE
“Tell me again why we're called Young Justice?” Ray asked.
“Reporters misquote stuff, you know?” Kon smirked, as if he were an expert about reporters as he flipped through channels.
“How could you misquote a name like that?”
“It was just us. Just. Ussssssssss,” Bart moved his mouth to enunciate each syllable even as they blurred into each other at his speed. “And I'm younger than I look!”
“They could have called us the Young Titans,” Cassie pointed out.
Bart made a face to show his disapproval and Kon pulled him down to sit.
Just us, huh? Ray thought. Fitting.
TEMPERANCE
The Top Teen let the cameraman drop, greeted by the squelching sound of seven broken ribs, muscles turned pulp, and teeth were a given loss.
"Slobo," Anita said with eyes still closed, "We agreed that selling ourselves to a reality television show meant people could look at us."
"But you're trainin' naked!"
"On the tennis court. I'm not ashamed."
"Neither am I!" Slobo leered. "But, frag it! He shouldn't be snapping pictures of ya like that."
"As if you wouldn't buy them."
"Naw, I woulda killed the bastich and took 'em." Slobo crushed the camera. "But you're makin' me soft."
FORTITUDE
The last one left. Should have made sense, right? Kon was the strongest on the team. He'd be the one to endure when everyone else fell to the wayside. The powerhouse. So of course he thought he'd always be there, because he was the strength where Bart was the speed and Tim was the strategy.
But they weren't supposed to leave. An unspoken order caught in his throat as they walked out.
"Hey man what's the deal? You're supposed to have my back!"
Don't go because of my mistakes.
I just wanted to lead so you won't leave me behind.
CHARITY/LOVE
Cissie doesn’t talk about why she quit, even though she was jealous how effortlessly Empress seemed to take her place. When she was okay with it she told Anita how she could never go back.
“Bart took me to a dance, like before it happened. Treated me like I was exactly the same. He couldn’t let me go...”
Anita knew about killing and the consequences. “You worked through it. Besides, Impulse is a nice guy, but he just doesn’t understand.”
Cissie smiled. Somehow that ambiguity became the answer. Not the act itself. Knowing. “He’s Impulse. He’s not supposed to understand.”
FAITH
Before leaving Greta asked the Spectre how he could believe in God. How could something supposedly benevolent create suffering? Her tears dissolved to smoke when she asked how He could make her evil when she was trying so hard to be good.
Beneath his cowl the soul that used to be Hal Jordan, who destroyed countless lives and heard their screams every moment, knew not what to say. He believed in God because he needed to. He needed redemption.
And Greta, for all her fears, didn't.
He said it was faith, and prayed for her it would never be need.
HOPE
She loved him before first sight. Silly but true.
Cassie Sandsmark loved the ideal, the concept of Superboy. She loved him with the stupid, wild abandonment that marks innocent crushes. She would lay awake at night dreaming of him carrying her off into the sky ages after she gained her own powers of flight.
When she first joined Young Justice her goal was to impress him. Even after all the trials they went through and the times she wanted to deck him that adoration never went away.
She was his friend, his fan, and maybe something more. If she waited.
